‘Culture is undone through conflict. As the voices of the masses are silenced & traditions weaponized, the world can only goggle at the spectacle paraded in front of them. Through rose tinted glasses, we forget the appearance of suffering.’ – Laura Vuorio

Laura Marie Katriina Vuorio was born in Turku, Finland, but has lived the majority of her life in Singapore. She received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts (Honours) from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, and is currently working as a Visual Arts Teacher in Art Village in Singapore. As a practicing artist, she specializes in mixed media, often combining oil medium, charcoal, and watercolour together. Her work focuses on themes of perception, dealing with body politics, sexuality, and discrimination, which she conveys by the use of her own dwarf body.
